Shane on WRDW

Here’s a great story that ran last night on WRDW.  Video is included.

WRDW - CAMPAIGN WAR OF WORDS

Senate Dist. 25–It’s a war of the words for one Senate District in South Carolina. Shane Massey and Bill Hixon are in a runoff for the District 25 seat vacated by Tommy Moore.

It began yesterday, the day after Shane Massey and Bill Hixon were the two top vote getters in the primary. Massey sent a letter to Hixon to sign a clean campaign pledge. But Hixon refused to sign the pledge–at least for now.

“One of the things I really hate about politics is they are always so negative and always attacking each other and I just wanted people to know I’m going to run a positive campaign,” says Massey.

Massey wrote to Hixon, “Instead of fighting and attacking one another, let’s stay positive and talk about the issues and our qualifications to be State Senator.”

Surprise is Hixon’s reaction to the pledge. That’s because he says he’s been running a positive campaign since day one.

“And I guess now, my opponent chooses to run one also,” says Hixon.

In Massey’s pledge he states, “I will not engage in nor be involved with unfair or misleading attacks upon the character of an opponent.”

But, in a reply from the Hixon campaign last night, Hixon says Massey’s pledge for a clean campaign will ring hollow if some negative problems are not looked at. Problems Massey just doesn’t see.

“I’m going to stay positive, talk about the issues because I don’t think everybody cares about the other stuff,” says Massey.

Hixon’s campaign says “various websites have been used to anonymously attack me, my friends and my family.” One such website is kaolinkronicle.com.

“I don’t know anything about the KaolinKronicle. I don’t know who runs it. All I try to do is focus on me and my issues,” says Massey.

Hixon says Massey could have stopped the negative postings and negative adds from out of state agencies.

“All he had to do was call the PAC and tell them to leave Bill alone and run on the issues each candidates stands for,” says Hixon.

Bill Hixon says if the negative attacks end and Shane Massey adds that into the pledge, he will sign the clean campaign pledge.

As a Republican candidate for South Carolina Senate District 25, I pledge to conduct my campaign honestly without personal attacks on my opponent:

• I will only discuss the issues and my qualifications for the South Carolina State Senate.

• I will not engage in, nor be involved with, unfair or misleading attacks up the character of an opponent.

• I will neither use nor be involved with the use of, any campaign material or advertisement that misrepresents, distorts or otherwise falsifies the facts regarding my opponent.

• I will take full responsibility for any unfair or misleading attacks coming from my campaign.

• I will clearly identify the source of all campaign material published or distributed on my behalf.

• I pledge not to coordinate or encourage the financial involvement of any other individual or group so that the campaign can be one of ideas between the two candidates.

Thank You!

I’d like to thank you for helping me place first in the Republican Party Primary. While we still have a run-off election in two weeks, I strongly believe we are the road to victory.

In the past couple weeks we saw a lot of negativity around the district. I believe this shows a bigger problem with campaigns and government. Politicians would rather sling mud than concentrate on getting results for South Carolina families.

As I campaign, I promise to remain positive and concentrate solely on the ideas that will move our area forward. I refuse to attack my opponent and I will only focus on my ideas and my solutions to the problems facing South Carolina. I will conduct my campaign in a manner that will make you proud because in today’s world of political scandals, it’s even more important to remain positive.

Thank you again for your outpouring of support in the Republican Primary. The fight isn’t over yet. Together we can fight the politicians and shake up Columbia.

FOUR STEP PLAN TO STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

Filed Under News, Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Shane Massey announced his four step plan to stop illegal
immigration today. “Congress has failed to enact any measures to stop the
flow of illegal immigration, so we must address this issue on the state
level” said Massey. He also pointed out that other surrounding states have
already passed measures to stop illegal immigration, which will make South
Carolina particularly attractive to undocumented workers seeking employment.

Massey believes the solution to the current immigration problem can be
solved following these four simple steps:

1.) Allow SLED to work with federal officials to arrest and deport illegal
immigrants.

2.) Increase penalties for businesses who hire illegal immigrants as
employees.

3.) Require all companies doing business with state and local governments to
verify the legal status of all employees.

4.) Strengthening current identity theft laws.

“Complex problems, do not always require complex solutions. That’s what the
legislature in Columbia needs to realize” said Massey. “If elected I will
work hard to shake things up and change the status quo”

WE MUST DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY IN GOVERNMENT

Shane Massey today released the forth part of his 5 Point Plan to Shake Up Columbia. Shane’s forth point addresses the concerns about the lack of accountability in government. Massey believes that accountability will increase if we cut spending, restructure our outdated state government, and hold public officials responsible for their actions.

“People have lost trust in government. I plan to change this through the values of hard work and honesty I’ve lived by my entire life” said Massey. “If elected I will try my best to restore the public’s faith in Government.”

SHANE ON CUTTING SPENDING

Columbia is spending too much money and getting few results. Reducing spending allows us to cut taxes, giving families more money to spend, spurring our economy, and creating jobs in private industry. Our state’s spending has increased by nearly forty percent in the past three years. Increases of that nature are not only irresponsible but they are also unsustainable.

IT’S TIME FOR ACCOUNTABILITY & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN EDUCATION

Shane Massey today released the third of his 5 Point Plan to Shake Up Columbia. Shane’s third point concentrates on education, which he says is “the single most important issue facing South Carolina.”

Shane said “the future of South Carolina depends on our ability to education our children. Everything from economic development to crime to family values depends on education. Unfortunately our education system is too top heavy to the detriment of our students and teachers. It’s time to demand accountability, get money out of bureaucracy, and into the classroom.”

Income Tax Cuts and Hard Work Will Create Jobs

Filed Under News, Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Shane Massey today released the first of his 5 Point Plan to Shake Up Columbia. Shane’s first point concentrates on job creation, which we can accomplish if we cut the state’s income tax and work hard to recruit new companies.

Shane says that economic development is multi-tiered and will take more than just tax cuts, but income tax cuts will help create a pro-business environment. Job creation also relies on our ability to improve our public education system so that we can provide a skilled workforce for employers, fight illegal immigration, and reign in state spending. Shane will release plans on those issues later this week.

SHANE ON INCOME TAX CUTS

Governor Mark Sanford is right. Although some candidates for this State Senate seat have actively tried to remove Governor Sanford from office, I believe his agenda to create jobs through income tax cuts is exactly what we should be doing to create a pro-business environment. Last year the state legislature relieved some of the property tax burden on families, and although they recently cut some personal income taxes, it’s vital that we do more.
