A Season to Begin Working Together

We are so behind on our Christmas shopping. As you know, my wife, Blair, and I have been pretty busy since July. Three elections and a whirlwind of activity since has been the order of the day. We haven’t had much time for anything else.
And I love every minute of it.
However, I can’t let another day pass without thanking you. I want you to know that I am humbled and honored that you selected me to be your S.C. Senator. When the Legislative session begins in January, I’ll proudly represent you, pledging that I’ll give you 100% determination and hard work. But I won’t forget that I’m in this seat because you put me here. Elected representatives would do well to remember that we are in these seats temporarily.

Massey wins recount in close Senate contest
Rep. Bill Clyburn concedes race to GOP newcomer
The State Newspaper
By RODDIE A. BURRIS - rburris@thestate.com
Edgefield County Republican and political newcomer Shane Massey is the victor in the District 25 state Senate race, besting veteran Aiken Democratic state Rep. Bill Clyburn after a Thursday recount.
Unofficial results of the recount show Massey edged Clyburn by 138 votes in the Nov. 6 special election.
Massey said Clyburn called him around midday Thursday to offer congratulations for winning the hotly contested race that stood in limbo for nine days.
“I accepted his congratulations and we talked about the need to work together to be effective representatives for our area,” Massey said. “We’re gonna have to work together.”
Clyburn, a House member since 1995, represents much of the same geographic area as the Senate district covers.
The State Election Commission is expected to certify results of the recount today, according to Gary Baum, a commission spokesman.
A state law triggered the recount because the difference between the candidates’ vote totals was less than 1 percent.
Massey, a 32-year-old attorney, accumulated 7,152 votes, or 50.47 percent, to Clyburn’s 7,014 votes, or 49.49 percent. The district covers Aiken, Edgefield, McCormick and Saluda counties, and had been represented for decades by former Sen. Tommy Moore, who resigned in August to take a job in private industry.
Under state law, Clyburn has five days, until Nov. 21, to protest the election results, Baum said. But Clyburn said he would not do so if a recount showed he lost.
“Congratulations to Shane Massey for his victory in this special election,” Clyburn said in a statement released after the recount. “I look forward to working with him as we both serve the people of our area.”
Clyburn, 66, is preparing for his daughter’s wedding, and in the statement thanked his wife, Beverly, and his supporters and said “the time of election politics is over and the time for getting to work has begun.”
Massey said he, too, is anxious to get to work.
The Legislature reconvenes Jan. 8 in Columbia, but Massey won’t have to wait to assume office. Senate assistant clerk Mike Hitchcock said Massey can be sworn in by a notary public or judge at the time and location of his choosing, or he can wait until the session opens in January.

Shane Massey elected to South Carolina Senate District 25 in Recount
NBC-Augusta
The race for South Carolina Senate District 25 has been decided. Republican Shane Massey won the election in a recount Thursday. He’ll represent Aiken, Edgefield, McCormick and Saluda counties.
The recount was necessary because less than one-percent of votes separated Massey from his opponent Democrat Bill Clyburn.
Massey beat Clyburn by 138 votes.
Clyburn will continue as a state representative.
Massey replaces Tommy Moore who left the position this summer.
The South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson released this statement:“I want to congratulate Shane Massey, his wife Blair and his campaign team on their historic win. We are extremely excited to welcome Shane to Columbia, and we look forward to working with him to make state government effective and efficient.”

Friends,
Today is Election Day and I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to listen to my ideas. This election is about the future and the direction we take as a district and a state.
It’s about bringing new jobs to our area by cutting taxes on small businesses and creating an environment for job growth.
It’s about giving tax relief to our working families.
It’s about fixing education for every child by getting the community involved and by getting money out of wasteful bureaucracy and into the classrooms.
It’s about providing affordable, quality healthcare for every South Carolinian.
It’s about protecting the family values we all share.
It’s about getting tough on all crime and fighting illegal immigration.
It’s about demanding more from our elected officials in the wake of scandal.
Most importantly, it’s about ideas, honesty, and hard work.
I hope I can count on your vote today!
Sincerely,
Shane Massey
Last Minute Desperate Attacks
Filed Under News, Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
The last minute desperate attacks have begun.
Have you seen those signs all over the district saying “Amnesty for Illegal Workers?” Yep, that phone number on the sign is my home number.
Someone wants you to believe that I’m for Amnesty. It’s a last minute desperate attack that won’t work. I’m the only candidate with a plan to fight illegal immigration in South Carolina.
Here’s a brief explanation of my plan from the Greenwood Index Journal. These comments were made at a voter forum sponsored by the Saluda Lions Club last week:
Massey said illegal immigration is an example of what he means when he says he wants to “shake things up a bit.”
He said Georgia has implemented laws as have other states.
“The result of that was that a lot of Southeastern states, a lot of our neighboring states toughened their laws on immigration. We didn’t because we had people who were too busy fighting each other up in Columbia to get anything done. And the result is, and y’all know this in Saluda, the result is that we’re starting to see an influx of more illegal immigrants in this area.”
Massey gave the crowd four steps on how to address illegal immigration in the district:
1. Make sure local law enforcement has the authority to work with others to make a change.
2. Make it a crime to harbor or transport illegal immigrants.
3. Verify identity of employees.
4. Take a closer look at identity theft and fake identification.
