Palmetto Family Alliance Director calls attacks on Massey “a horrible distortion”

To the Editor:
An overwhelming majority of South Carolina voters are alarmed about special interest groups working to purge religion and values from every forum of public life. Fortunately, we have steady leadership from champions like State Senator Shane Massey who make it their top priority to protect the values we all share.
Recently Shane has been under attack by folks who seem willing to say nearly anything to remove him from the State Senate. As an eyewitness to what actually occurred, I am writing to ask readers of this newspaper not to fall for these vicious and dishonest attacks.
You may have heard about “the Ten Commandments Bill” (actually the Historical Documents Act), a new law advising local governments how to Constitutionally display the foundational documents of American history and law in public. Read more

SHANE MASSEY RESPONDS TO DESPERATE ATTACK AD

Greg Anderson and Friends Will Obviously Say Anything
(Edgefield, SC) – In an odd move of desperation, the South Carolina Senate Democratic Caucus is accusing State Senator Shane Massey of supporting predatory lenders and gang violence. The ridiculous ad, reminiscent of a fifteen-year-old lying to his parents about breaking curfew, uses shark images to frighten “the poor and elderly.”
Today Senator Massey issued the following response:
“I haven’t seen this type political garbage since the Democrats placed signs around the district last year accusing me of supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants.
This ad just goes to prove that the people who recruited Greg Anderson will say anything to win. These are the very people I’m working to shake up in Columbia.
This ad is a perfect example of the Columbia good ol’ boy system. The Democratic Caucus has taken tens of thousands of dollars from the same “predatory lenders” they are now attacking. It’s the type of political hypocrisy that has led our nation and state in the wrong direction.
As for the accusations, they are complete nonsense. Not only am I no fan of predatory lenders, but I voted twice to limit payday lending operations in South Carolina. Of course, the good ol’ boys won’t tell you that. To say I’m against plans “to help stop gangs from preying on our communities” is laughable. I voted for the very bill (S.1056) the Democratic Caucus claims I voted against! I also voted to get illegal immigrants out of our neighborhoods, and I led the fight to strengthen DUI penalties. I’m proud of my record, and I’ll continue fighting every day to shake up the status quo politicians that plays these political games.
Unfortunately, we’re all going to have to get used to these nasty attacks over the next month because it’s obvious that the status quo forces supporting Mr. Anderson will say and do anything.”

South Carolina has about a $7 billion budget. Just about a year ago, Senator Shane Massey says the state had about a billion dollars extra. But that was all spent and the state is facing some big budget cuts.
It’s not just lawmakers crunching numbers, PTA mom of four Karen Skiff is also worried about money.
“They can’t cut our budgets anymore,” says Karen. “They’ve been cut. We need to educate our kids.” Karen, the Aiken Elementary PTA Treasurer says with a tough economy now, she’s worried education will take a budget hit. Read more

Schools need adequate funding, candidates in the race for the Aiken County Board of Education and the state Senate and House agreed during two separate forums held Monday.
At the Aiken County Historical Society, candidates running for the Legislature talked about the need to change the state’s funding mechanism for education.
“Funding has to be leveled out among counties, rich and poor,” said Greg Anderson, the Democratic candidate for Senate District 25. Mr. Anderson lives in Edgefield County, which, he said, is a rural county that does not see its fair share of funding. Read more

Negative Campaign Alert

Friends –
I’ve received numerous calls today from supporters telling me about a negative television ad they’ve seen today attacking me. I have not seen the ad, but I hear it’s from an extremely liberal Columbia special interest group.
I’m not shocked that the Columbia special interests are attacking me. That’s what happens when you work to shake up the status quo establishment.
I’m proud of my record and my fight to change the way things are done in Columbia. If you have any questions about the ad, please call me directly on my cell phone at 803-480-0419.
Have a wonderful weekend.
