Edgefield Daily: Edgefield County’s Massey to seek State Senate seat

Edgefield County resident Shane Massey has officially announced his candidacy for the 25th District State Senator today on the Edgefield Town Square. He will be seeking the seat left open by the sudden resignation of Sen. Tommy Moore (D-Clearwater). “I see many problems that need solutions. But to find solutions we must change the way Columbia works. It is with that belief and with the willingness to do the hard work that I announce my candidacy to serve the people of Aiken, Edgefield, McCormick, and Saluda counties in the South Carolina Senate,” Massey said in the speech he delivered to supporters and media present for the announcement.

“To find real solutions to our problems, we must bring greater change to our state.  That means changing the structure that resists change. Changing those more interested in politics than progress. To advance our communities, we must change Columbia. Where Democrats fight Republicans. The House fights the Senate. Both fight the Governor. Special interests rule the town. And South Carolinians are kept waiting for solutions,” Mr. Massey said.

Mr. Massey is a partner with the law firm Nance, McCants, and Massey where he served as an associate attorney from 2001 through 2006 and is a former law clerk for Judge William P. Keesley.

He is a 1993 graduate of Strom Thurmond High School. After High School Massey attended Clemson University where he graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Chemistry and a minor in Economics in May of 1997 before attending the University of South Carolina School of Law receiving a Juris Doctor in May of 2000.

Mr. Massey is married to the former Blair L. Ballard of Charlotte North Carolina and has been a resident of Edgefield County for the past 17 years. He has served the community as a Board member for the Edgefield County First Steps, the Johnston Development Board, President of the Aiken Republican Club, President–elect for the Aiken Sertoma Club, second vice-president of the Johnston Lions Club, and the attorney coach for the Strom Thurmond Mock Trial Team, among many other recognitions and services.

“We must do more to seek economic prosperity for our district. In Aiken County, we have witnessed tragedy and extensive job losses in the past few years. Edgefield, Saluda, and McCormick counties have found it difficult to recruit good, high-wage jobs. With the right leadership, we can work to reverse those trends. I pledge to you that I will work with our town and county officials on job recruitment, and I will be a strong advocate in Columbia for the economic prosperity of this area,” Mr. Massey said.

Progress does not come from spending more money Mr. Massey stated, “We absolutely have to be more responsible in our spending. And we must continue efforts to restructure our state government. If we can make our government more efficient and more cost-effective at the same time, it is incumbent upon us to do so.”

    I couldn’t understand some parts of this article s Massey to seek State Senate seat : Shake Up Columbia with Shane Massey, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
