Massey: “I’m going to knock on 10,000 doors during this election”

AIKEN – Shane Massey announced Thursday that he will knock on 10,000 doors during his campaign for State Senate to prove his desire and ability to do the hard work it takes to bring change to state government. “I’m running to shake up the status quo in Columbia,” Massey said.

“Columbia politicians are spending too much money and failing to protect our family values, educate our children, and crack down on illegal immigration.” Massey said that, “We can solve those problems, but it is going to take a lot of hard work.” Massey added that he is up for the challenge in order to prove it, “I’m going to knock on 10,000 doors during this election.”

“Shane’s Shakeup Walk” will being Monday in Aiken County and will continue through Thursday visiting Edgefield, McCormick, and Saluda counties.

“I’m looking forward to hitting the streets and meeting the voters of our district,” Massey said. “I want to hear first hand from the hard working families of our area about their greatest concerns.”

With the launch of his door to door tour, Massey also unveiled a new campaign website to showcase the hard working grassroots efforts of his campaign. The Website will feature door-to-door schedules, endorsements from grassroots supporters, issue videos, and ways for voters to get involved in the campaign.

Shane Massey is the lone announced Republican after the Thursday release that Aiken County Council Chairman Ronnie Young was withdrawing from the race. Strom Thurmond Jr., of Aiken, tempted many by indicating he might throw his hat in the ring and then backing out. Bill Hixon, of North Augusta, has said he is contemplating a challenge but has not officially announced his intentions.

Hixon, who claims to be a Republican, was a very vocal supporter of Democrat Tommy Moore, who resigned his Senate seat earlier this month making way for the special election. Hixon is said to be “testing the waters” at this time in spite of an informal announcement in the Edgefield Advertiser last week.

Rep. Bill Clyburn (D-Aiken) has also announced his intentions to seek the position as the only Democrat candidate. Clyburn will not have to resign his current position as a State Representative in order to run for the Senate seat.  No other candidates have come forward at this time.

Mr. Massey will officially file for his Republican candidacy for the Senate seat at the Ten Governor’s Café on the Edgefield Town Square today at noon today. The public is invited to attend.
